The Appeal Of Fun
By: Darren LaCroix
Why is humor so powerful?
Why do you enjoy humor?
Do you like to do business with fun people? Why? Is it because “Funny” sales people earn more and “Fun” companies have more loyal customers? Quite simply put, humor is a release of tension. We enjoy it; which is why it is so powerful.
When we release the tension in the “customer service process,” we go a long way towards creating loyal customers. When we release the tension in the “sales process,” we make stronger connections, which bring us much closer to the close.
During my career in sales I always marveled at the top sales guy in our department. He worked half the hours and sold twice as much as his colleagues. When I asked him what he thought the secret was, he replied, “HUMOR! The same days I don’t make people laugh, are the same days I don’t sell anything.” John Yates
Our mindset and our intent make a big difference in the bottom line. You don’t have to be funny to do this. Figure out where the tension is for your customer, then find a way to relieve it.
How much fun are YOU to do business with?
Do you actively try to relieve the tension for the people you are trying to turn into loyal customers?
